We own two lovely apartments in a hotel in Madeira on an interval-ownership basis and we would be happy to let either of them when we are not wanting to stay there ourselves. They are available for two weeks in March and for one week in November.

Our Apartments are in the Royal Orchid Hotel directly on the seafront at Caniço de Baixo (meaning Lower Caniço) about 11 miles from the capital, Funchal, and about the same distance from the airport, both quickly reached via a splendid new motorway.

The Royal Orchid Hotel occupies a superb position overlooking the sea and is a friendly and efficient establishment which has kept its same key staff over the years that we have been going there. Facilities include a restaurant, 2 bars, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, fitness centre and billiards. The sun terraces and pretty rock walks are floodlit at night. The hotel provides a courtesy bus to Funchal several times a day. There are also local buses into the city from nearby bus stops, as well as competitive car hire agencies nearby and at the airport.

We have what we consider to be the two best one-bedroom apartments in the hotel, both comprising a large sitting room with kitchen and dining area, and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Each has an additional WC/shower room and double wardrobe, the apartments being designed for two couples with the use of a sofa bed. There is a daily maid service with regular changes of bed linen and towels.

Apartment 609 is on the 6th floor, with a very large covered balcony overlooking the sea, sheltered from the prevailing winds. This Apartment is available for the week commencing Monday 22rd November 2010.

Apartment 710 solely occupies the top floor of a section of the Royal Orchid Hotel. It features a covered balcony to one side and an open terrace on the other. This Apartment can be booked for either a one-week or a two-week stay, commencing Monday 8th March and Monday 15th March 2010.
